FAQs

What happens in our sessions?  How long do they take?

First there will be an in-depth consultation that typically lasts an hour. This allows us to find out what you are looking for from our sessions together and to discuss how therapy can help you.

Further sessions last between 50 minutes and an hour. Sessions start with positive interaction to look at what has gone well with your week, followed by solution focused questioning to help you look at how to overcome your challenges and reach your goals. The session may conclude with hypnosis to aid you to feel positive and move forward with any decisions made in the session.

What is solution focused therapy?

Solution focused therapy is an effective, positive and safe treatment for children, teenagers and adults.  It focuses on what you want to achieve now and in the future, rather than dwelling on past problems.

Through a combination of talking therapy and hypnosis, you will learn how your mind works and what you can do to replace old, negative thought patterns with positive new ones. It is a collaborative process between client and therapist and enables you to make significant changes within a relatively short period of time.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a type of trance. Trance is a very ordinary state of mind, in fact we go into trance many times a day - when we are out for walk, when we watch TV and even when we are driving.  It's a little like day dreaming, letting our minds drift away to somewhere different.

During the session I use a gentle relaxation to give you a lovely feeling of day dreaming. This helps your mind relax and wander while I use tailored language patterns and positive affirmations to encourage feelings of confidence and motivation.  You are always in control and can bring yourself out of trance at any time.

Neuroscientists believe that hypnosis is the quickest and easiest way to make changes to your thought processes, as it’s when the mind is open to change. During this wonderful state of deep relaxation, your brain is working 4 times as hard as normal to process your thoughts.

Why do I have a relaxation download?

I'll send you a relaxation download after the initial consultation which you are encouraged to listen to each day.  The recording is tailored for you and includes a full body relaxation and a guided journey to recognise your strengths and skills and help you to find a new way of thinking and a new way of being. You can listen to the download at any time of the day or as you go to sleep in the evening. You should not listen to the relaxation when you are driving a car or operating machinery.

You may receive more than one download as therapy progresses and your needs change. However, you will be able to keep all downloads for as long as you like and keep for future use.

How many sessions will I need?

On average it is usually 6-10 sessions, but everybody is different and this is just a guide.

Can I see you in-person?

Yes, I offer in-person sessions at my clinics in Wedmore and Wells in Somerset.

Do you have availability in the evenings?

Yes, I offer online sessions on Mondays to Thursdays between 5.30pm and 8pm.

How much does it cost and how do I pay?

Please see my Prices & packages page for costs. Payment is by bank transfer ahead of each session.  If you can't do bank transfers, let's have a chat about an alternative payment method.

What happens if I'm running late or need to cancel an appointment?

If you are running a bit late, please message me to let me know. I may still be able to offer you a full hour for the session but if I have another client straight after it  may mean our session has to be a little shorter.

If you need to cancel an appointment there is no charge if the cancellation is made with more than 24 hours notice.

If a cancellation is made within 24 hours of the treatment, you will not be reimbursed the cost of the session unless the cost is waived or reduced at my discretion.
